UFC Fight Night 95: Cyborg vs. Lansberg Predictions

Brasil!!!!! We go to the Brasilia, Brazil this week to watch fights that largely won't have a large impact on any of the rankings.  At least we get to watch Cyborg commit murder in the octagon.

UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Arlovski Picks and Predictions

Home to many of the best kick boxers in the world, the UFC is finally making its way to Rotterdam, Netherlands. With a card filled with some of Europe's best heavy hitters, it's not hard to imagine we'll be seeing a number of finishes through out the event. Highlighting the card is a showdown between two excellent strikers when former K-1 Grand Prix champion Alistair Overeem takes on former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski. If one heavyweight fight wasn't enough we'll also see Stefan Struve take on Antonio Silva in what should be close match up. In addition we'll also see Gunnar Nelson, Albert Tumenov and Germaine De Randamie in action.

UFC 193: Rousey v. Holm Predictions

The queen of mixed martial arts is back and ready to defend her championship. Fresh off of being on the cover of every God damn magazine still in circulation, Ms. Ronda Rousey defends her bantamweight championship against multiple-time (how about 10? Does that sound good to you guys? No? How about 12?) boxing champion Holly Holm in front of 55,000 plus screaming Aussies. We also have another title on the line in the co-main event where Joanna "Champion" Jedrzejczyk defends her UFC strawweight championship against Valérie Létourneau. Check out our predictions below.

UFC Fight Night 61: Mir vs. Silva Picks

Boy oh boy has there every been a Fight Night card so over-shadowed by the week's events?  If you've been under a rock the last couple days you missed the UFC holding a press conference doing a 180 on drug testing (which was a 180 from their stance to allow the commissions to do all the drug testing.  WADA level testing all year round AND a four year ban for first offenses=the UFC is not fucking around.  It's only fitting that the week the UFC shows how big their Johnson is, the main event involves two guys who used to do TRT.

Frank Mir vs Antonio Silva

Perhaps because Mir has been in the UFC since I was a junior in high school and Silva is working on his third year with the company, it definitely feels like Mir is so much older than the Brazilian but they're only seperated by a few months.  While age may be nothing but a number, fight tape doesn't lie.  Frank Mir has not looked good in a fight since the time he broke poor Big Nog's arm back in 2011.  He simply isn't a high-level fighter anymore but because he's still a draw he's still getting contender-level opponents.  Silva will blitz Mir from the beginning of the fight and make quick work of the former champ.  Silva by TKO in first round.

UFC Heavyweight Championship:
Cain Velasquez (c) v. Antonio Silva

UFC 146. Do you remember it? It wasn't that long ago. Today is actually one year to the day of that event. Why is this significant? It's because that was the date Cain Velasquez turned a UFC fight into a God damn horror movie. He brutalized this guy named Antonio Silva and left him in a pool of his own blood. One year later...they're fighting again. Mostly due to lack of options. I'm going to go out on a limb as say that Cain is probably going to take this one.

Junior Dos Santos v. Mark Hunt

The #RallyforMarkHunt has paid off in a big way. The big man is now fighting JDS for a shot at the UFC title. Does he have what it takes to beat Cigano. Yes. Mark Hunt could knock out a rhino. I am so excited for this fight that there is NO possible way that it can live up.

UFC 156: Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar Predictions

UFC Featherweight Championship

Kid Presentable: Vitor got a title shot in a division where he had no relevance, and now Chael Sonnen is getting one too. Frankie is coming off of two losses and is entering a new weight class yet I have no problems with this title shot. It has been fairly common knowledge that Frankie could easily drop down in weight and this is without doubt the greatest threat to Aldo's reign atop the division. Frankie has all the tools to make the night long and difficult for Aldo. Frankie is fast, sets up his takedowns really well, and has an endless gas tank. Essentially he is everything Urijah Faber was supposed to be in his fight against Aldo. The problem though is that for all of Frankie's movement he still has a propensity for getting hit. Hard. And often. Even in the second match against Bendo, just because Frankie caught all those leg kicks, doesn't mean that he wasn't just eating them the whole time. Frankie may have gone down in weight, but he hasn't fought anyone that hits like Aldo. Aldo by TKO round 2.

Doctor Law: The Superfight is finally here. Current featherweight champion versus the former lightweight champion. It may not be champion versus champion, but it’s still pretty great. I think this is a tough fight to pick. There are so many factors to consider. How will Aldo deal with Frankie’s movement? How will Frankie deal with Aldo’s leg kicks? How will the weight cut affect Frankie? Will Aldo’s time off affect his gas tank? Will Aldo’s decision to stupidly pick the Ravens over the 49ers cause us to question his value as a human being? I keep going back and forth on this fight. Ultimately, I do think Frankie will win the championship rounds due to his cardio, but I think it’ll be too late after Aldo wins the first 3 rounds. Aldo by decision.

DJ Marc with a "K": This is a really tough fight to pick. It’s always hard to judge how a fighter will perform when going to a new weight division. The cut to 145 seems like it’ll be an easy one which is very good because Frankie isn’t wasting any time in the Featherweight division. Aldo at times has seemed as skilled and talented as any of the other UFC champions but he’s also had a few moments where you might question some of his ability and stamina. I think the key to this fight is really going to be who has the better footwork and if Aldo can successfully use leg kicks to slow down Edgar. It’s a tough call but I’m picking Aldo here. Aldo by decision.

Lavender Gooms: While it’s not Anderson vs. GSP, this right now is the closest thing to a super fight we’re going to see for at least the next year most likely. Even during his reign as lightweight champ the critique against Frankie was as man that was easily just walking around at 155 in a division where his competitors were cutting 20 or more pounds that he was too small for the division. People (including myself) were stupidly saying this while he beat a legend twice, defended it three times and arguably won his fight against Bendo. Frankie will be the first true challenge to the throne of the 145 champ. Even dropping a weight class, Edgar should have no problem making weight and maintaining the maddening pace for five rounds that he displayed at 155. On the other hand Aldo has had problems making the weight in the past and has had problems with fatigue in the later rounds and against Edgar…he will get into the later rounds. While Aldo’s leg kicks can be a problem for Edgar is he lands enough of them, I think Edgar will be able to stick and move with enough agility to neutralize Aldo’s greatest weapon. Tom’s River’s greatest son becomes two division champion and Sal looks to buy more walkout t-shirts. Edgar by decision.

UFC on FX 5: Browne v. Silva Predictions

Travis Browne v. Antonio Silva 

Doctor Law: Two big boys going at it here. The fight is scheduled for 5 rounds, but it’s almost a guarantee that this doesn’t make it past the second round. Travis Browne is coming off of a drubbing of Chad Griggs (to the surprise of no one) and is unbeaten in his UFC career. Bigfoot Silva, on the other hand, has taken two AKA ass kickings in the past year from the hands of Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez. I wasn't as high on Travis Browne as everybody else when he first started, but he is slowly turning me around. He has good hands and is a decent wrestler. Bigfoot Silva, on the other hand, has great ground and pound and is a BJJ black belt. I think this is a close one, but I think Bigfoot finds a way to pull this one out. Bigfoot by 2nd round submission. 

Kid Presentable: The sell here is a clash of two very large heavyweights, but at the same time I am not entirely sold on either one of these guys. The only thing I am certain of in this fight as I am with all Silva fights, is that win or lose Browne will have some broken bones in his hands. Of the two I guess I am least sold on Browne as I have at least had Silva hover around the top 10 in rankings. Silva is the more well-rounded of the two and Browne has a propensity to gas. Silva believes he has the best stand up and ground game in the division much in the same sense that I believe I would be in the NBA if I were 3 inches taller(yeah, still no chance). But I still call the sub here. Bigfoot by submission 2nd round.

DJ Mark with a “K”: Over the last year or so I’ve become a fan of Travis Browne. At first he just seemed like another body in the UFC Heavyweight division for the top tier guys to get some practice in with but he’s really grown on me. I think this fight is perfect for Browne as well. Bigfoot Silva has a massive dome, that’s just a fact, and Browne hits hard. I think it’s only a matter of time before he lays his right hand all over his face. The real question is, will he break his hand on his head? To me, that’s always the most interesting part of a Bigfoot Silva fight. Browne by 1st round TKO 3:38 in. 

Lavender Gooms: Antonio Silva’s greatest trait is a dome piece that has a penchant of breaking the hands of people who crack him upside that large noggin. What I’m trying to tell you by highlighting such a useless trait is….he’s not going to win. Silva has slick BJJ and can cause trouble if he gets on top. As long as Browne can avoid that, he should be able to knock Silva out and send him to a three fight losing streak. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t break a hand though. Browne by KO in the 1st round.
