UFC Fight Night: MacDonald v. Thompson Predictions

After a crazy UFC 199, where there was more drama outside the cage then inside (and that's saying something given all the incredible fights we witnessed that night), it's comforting to think maybe this event won't feel so bonkers. UFC arrives in Ottawa for the first time and comes packing a pretty fun fight card on paper. Headlining the event is a fantastic fight between Rory MacDonald and Stephen Thompson, in what will most likely be a number one contenders match. Also on the card is an intriguing match between Donald Cerrone and Patrick Cote. The rest of the card includes popular fighters like Steve Bosse, Olivoer Aubin-Mercier, Valerie Letourneau and Joanne Calderwood.

Rory MacDonald vs Stephen Thompson

This really is an incredible fight. Thompson has been growing leaps and bounds with every fight, most recently destroying former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks inside the first round. Rory on the other hand hasn't been as active, not fighting since losing the Fight of the Year against current champion Robbie Lawler. To me this is a pick'em fight, both guys have an arsenal of ways to get the win here but I'm betting on Rory being able to pull it off. On the feet it'll be a war, I'm mostly banking on if this fight hits the mat I'm a little more comfortable with Rory in those situations. Rory by GnP late in the 4th round

MacDonald: Gooms, Doc Law, DJ Mark
Thompson: Kid Presentable

Donald Cerrone vs Patrick Cote

This fight could be really fun if these two guys decide to bang it out in the middle of the octagon. Cote carries the heavier hands but Cerrone has the more versatile stand up game. I'm going with Cote in this one mostly because I don't see Cerrone finishing Cote, but I can see Cote landing a big shot and being able to put Cerrone away. I was also impressed with Cote's last win against Ben Saunders who is also an aggressive striker. Cote by TKO 2nd round

Cerrone: Doc Law, Gooms

Cote: Kid Presentable, DJ Mark

Steve Bosse vs Sean O'Connell

This is pure KO fodder for the card. If one of these guys doesn't get put away in this fight we all lose. Picking this fight is pure luck as far as I'm concerned. Both guys pretty much just go for the kill and both are capable of getting and giving out vicious knockouts. I flipped the coin and this time it landed on O'Connell.
O'Connell by 1st round KO

Bosse: Doc Law, Gooms
O'Connell: Kid Presentable, DJ Mark

Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs Thibault Gouti

I have to admit I'm not that familiar with Gouti in this one. However, like I've said in previous predictions articles, this is a great opportunity for Gouti to show me and the rest of the MMA fans what he brings to the table. That's not going to be an easy task against Aubin-Mercier, who I've seen fight a number of times and have been impressed. If Gouti can get the win here that'll be a fairly big statement. For the time being though, I have to go with Aubin-Mercier. Aubin-Mercier by decision

Aubin-Mercier: unanimous
Gouti: maybe next time

Valerie Letourneau vs Joanne Calderwood

What a fun match to open the main card with. Letourneau is coming off a loss to current champion Joanna Jedrezejczyk in which she went the distance but was obviously out-classed. Joanne is coming off a win against Cortney Casey in a really fun scrap that earned them Fight of the Night. Style-wise these two match up pretty well. I'm expecting a really fast-paced match up and I think Joanne might just be a bit too much for Letroutneau at this time. Calderwood by decision

Letourneau: Doc Law
Calderwood: Gooms, Kid Presentable, DJ Mark

It's MMAzing 2016 Standings
1. Doctor Law - (57-30) - .655
2. DJ Mark- (52-35) - .598
2. Lavender Gooms  - (52-35) - ..598
4. Kid Presentable - (51-36) - .586
